New
York State Fire Service Instructor I
The Suffolk County Fire Academy will be conducting the New
York State Fire Service Instructor I program. The dates are
as follows:
Thursday,
May 13, 2010 7:00 p.m.
Friday, May 14, 2010
8:00 a.m.
Saturday, May 15, 2010 8:00 a.m.
Sunday, May 16, 2010 8:00 a.m.
Friday, May 21, 2010 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 22, 2010 8:00 a.m.
Sunday, May 23, 2010 8:00 a.m.
This is an intense program and students must attend all the
dates, no exceptions. The final exam will be for National
Certification and there is a $25.00 fee for this exam. If
you have any members interested in taking this training,
please complete the application which can be found at
www.dos.state.ny.us/fire/pdfs/standards/exam.pdf
and return it to the Suffolk County Fire Academy, P. O. Box
128, Yaphank, NY 11980 with check or district voucher made
payable to the Academy of Fire Science no later than April
15, 2010. The class size is limited to 28 students on a
first come first serve basis.
Materials required for this class are the Jones & Bartlett
publications “Fire Service Instructor 1, Principles and
Practice Workbook and “Exam Prep: Fire Instructor I & II,
2nd Edition”, which can be purchased from the Suffolk County
Fire Academy for $85.00. Please pick up this material prior
to the start of the program since there are reading
assignments that must be completed prior to the start of the
first class.

OPEN ENROLLMENT CLASSES
In an
effort to quell the rash of No Shows at Open
Enrollment Classes, the Fire Academy has instituted a
new procedure for registration for these programs. A
$25.00 registration must accompany all applications for
Open Enrollment Programs. This fee will be reimbursed
upon completion of the class. If a student fails to show
without contacting the Academy at least 48 hours prior
to the start of class or does not complete the program,
the registration fee will be forfeited
A course
confirmation letter will be sent to each student, which must
be presented on the first day of class. This letter will
only be sent after the application and registration fee has
been received. Most of our Open Enrollment Classes have
waiting lists so it is imperative that students who are
unable to attend a class notify us so we may fill their seat
from the waiting list
ALL CLASSES WILL BE HELD EXCLUSIVELY AT THE
SUFFOLK COUNTY FIRE ACADEMY
All weeknight classes
will begin at 7:00 p.m.
All Saturday and Sunday
classes will begin at 8:00 a.m.
The
Introduction to Fire Officer Class will be held on an Open
Enrollment basis at the Sound Beach Fire Department,
152 Sound Beach Blvd, Sound Beach, New York beginning on
Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The
prerequisite for this course in Firefighter I. The dates for this
class are listed below. There is a class maximum of 35
students.
You
must register for this course using the
online registration
form.
No one will
be admitted to these classes without an e-mail confirmation
from the Fire Academy.
