Vocational Board "Medal of Valor- 2009" Award(s)

Once again the Vocational Education and Extension Board will be considering nominees for its "Medal of Valor Awards” for meritorious actions performed 1/1/2009 through 12/31/2009.  Every department has the opportunity to support its firefighters by forwarding their nominees who are worthy of consideration for these awards.

The criteria and application for the 2009 awards have been mailed to all departments and can also be downloaded here.  All applications must be returned to the Vocational Education and Extension Board and postmarked no later than March 1, 2010.

Should you have any specific questions regarding the process, please contact Chief Robert Holley, Deputy Director, at 924-6822 ext. 204. Your continued cooperation in this endeavor is appreciated.

                 OPEN ENROLLMENT CLASSES

In an effort to quell the rash of No Shows at Open Enrollment Classes, the Fire Academy has instituted a new procedure for registration for these programs. A $25.00 registration must accompany all applications for Open Enrollment Programs. This fee will be reimbursed upon completion of the class. If a student fails to show without contacting the Academy at least 48 hours prior to the start of class or does not complete the program, the registration fee will be forfeited

A course confirmation letter will be sent to each student, which must be presented on the first day of class. This letter will only be sent after the application and registration fee has been received. Most of our Open Enrollment Classes have waiting lists so it is imperative that students who are unable to attend a class notify us so we may fill their seat from the waiting list

Please download the Open Enrollment Course Registration Form and submit with your check payable to the "Suffolk County Fire Academy", PO Box 128, Yaphank, New York in addition to the online registration.

  1. Complete the online registration form (reference the course code below)

  2. Download the Open Enrollment Course Registration Form and mail completed form with $25.00 check payable to the Suffolk County Fire Academy, PO Box 128, Yaphank, NY 11980-0128
