Hazardous Materials Technician – Basic

Description

This course prepares emergency response personnel to respond to and stabilize incidents involving hazardous materials in an offensive mode effectively and safely.  Meets the training requirements of both skills and knowledge that a Hazardous Materials Technician must demonstrate to be certified under OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 472, Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents.  Includes the chemistry and toxicology of hazardous materials; the dangerous properties of chemicals; the use of detection instruments, confinements, and containment procedures, including hands-on application; incident management and safety procedures; decontamination; and the selection and use of chemical protective clothing with hands-on practice.
